Blood Red Dress Costume Detail

The dress in the picture was made very quickly for an unexpected event.  I used inexpensive Christmas cotton fabric, with a bit of gold metallic swirl to it, for the underdress and upper sleeves. The lower sleeves are large circles of red acetate velvet.  The overdress is a simple jumper style dress, trimmed at the neck with bias binding made from the underdress material.  I added in a fishtail segment to the center back of the overdress, to give it a bit more fullness, and added ribbon ties at the waist to cinch it in a bit in back.  I trimmed the underdress neckline and the sleeve junction with 2” wide antique gold trim from JoAnn Fabrics.
