Frodo Costume Detail
The version pictured is a combination of thrift store finds and custom made. My client was able to find an appropriate long sleeved linen shirt, from which we removed the collar, and a pair of suitable brown corduroy pants. I hemmed the pants short and used one cut-off leg to create a fake drop front look. I had old leather covered buttons that we used to secure the drop front.
I made a chocolate brown velvet vest, with pockets set into the front waist seam, a welt breast pocket and gold buttons.
I also made a frock coat for her, made from wool purchased at Embee’s in LA. This material is an incredible match to the actual fabric used. I lined the collar with the same velvet as I used for the vest. We never put buttons down the front, as my client didn’t think she’d want to button it up over the other layers. I did do the detailing at the side waist and wrists, with smaller leather buttons that matched the ones used on the pants. The coat is lined with muslin.
