Tick Costume Detail

This was one of my earliest costume projects for clients.

Tick and American MaidThe Tick comic book and cartoon were very popular the year we decided to do this. One of my friends was born to play The Tick and I found the perfect blue lycra in the bathing suit remnant section that summer.

Quilt batting gave him instant muscles and blue painted egg carton sections became antenna -- he supplied the perfect goofy attitude! I played American Maid and had the easiest outfit: a purchased summer dress, an easy handsewn apron and fabric covered cardboard headpiece, high heels and long white gloves. Sewer Urchin's costume was made from a purple shower curtain and mostly glued together. He wore a padded bike helmet covered in styrofoam spikes, a soap belt and goggles. "Arthur" was played by a woman that year. She wore a white unitard, turtleneck, hood and a headband with fluffy antenna. The wings were most impressive, with hinges and springs that allowed the wings to flex and bend (that way she could negotiate the party and the car!).
